Academy is a unique program developed by the Polk County Public Schools to give students in grades 4 – 10 who have fallen behind in school, the opportunity, through a specialized curriculum, to make up for lost time with the goal of being able to graduate with their class. If you are looking for an opportunity to get back on track with your education, the R.E.A.L. Academy may be the program for you.

Currently, the R.E.A.L. Academy has locations in Lakeland at the Dwight Smith Center, in Auburndale at Auburndale High School, in Haines City at Eastside Elementary, and for grades 4 & 5, at Gause Academy in Bartow.

Students work primarily online through standard based programs called Edgenuity and Schoology. These platforms are designed to provide accelerated courses, where the student can accomplish at least two school years within one.

Yes. While most of the work is completed online, there are teachers present to provide support and assistance, including daily instruction strategies to facilitate the learning process for the student.

As a self-paced, self-directed program, to some degree this is in the hands of the student. The program is designed however, for a student to be able to complete two years of school within one year.

Yes, assignments and activities can be completed at home, online. However tests and quizzes must be completed at school.

The student returns to his/her zoned school after completing the courses needed.

Motivated students who are two or more years behind in grades 4 – 10, although some exceptions can be done.

The application process is online and begins at your child’s current school. Your child’s counselor submits the application. Once you’re accepted, the counselor will contact you. Please contact your school for more information.
